Samsung Acclaim

Samsung Acclaim

  • ROM 1

Well A little history about this ROM's development, it was originally ported from the Acclaim's DL25 Sysdump to the
Samsung Moment, Now we're attempting to revert it back to its foundational build. Kind of weird how things go full circle huh lol, I guess thats the best way to explain the history of this ROM's development.

Okay with all that said, This ROM includes, reboot/recovery (dodgejcr and agat), 1% battery mod (john e wade), power control widgets (96blkgsr), joesephmothers ultimate crapkernel for acclaim along with his jit pack, Car Home (which I believe is new to the Acclaim community) & App Widget Picker.  I believe I readded all of the U.S.Cellular bloatware, also altered the carrier from Sprint back to U.S.Cellular, you guys let me know what to keep and what to remove, if theres any further errors etc. thanks to cwill0303 for helping with testing to let me know whats causing issues.

[DOWNLOAD VENROM DL25 RELEASE CANDIDATE 3]

[INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS]
I'm not 100% sure how the custom recovery operates for the Acclaim, I would suggest backing up your system and data before flashing this. Once finished with that clear cache and data then flash the zip and it should do the rest of the work for you.

Everything should be fully functional,
MMS FIXED! (thanks cwill for taking the time to figure it out)

ROM 2

Here you go guys, a new and improved ROM for use on the Acclaim. It has the DL25 and EB28 builds mixed together for optimum performance. Please test and let us know what issues you have and how it works! If you have any questions, ask. This works with the converted filesystems and apps2sd. A few additions have been made using parts of the Minimalist theme.

As always FLASH AT YOUR OWN RISK. We are not responsible for what you do with your phone!

Please wipe dalvik cache, cache, and then data/cache(factory reset) and then flash this zip file from your sd card in recovery.

Please check the md5sum before flashing to make sure you got the full download.

EDIT: RC2 should be stable and has the latest Google Apps.
EDIT: The latest Google Maps and Zeam were not included. I will get those in later today... Off to deal with the kids for a bit.

ROM 3

About:
All Über ROMs are built around five goals:
-speed
-battery life
-cleanness
-features (tweaks, modifications, and such)
-unstressful load on the CPU

This is done by cleaning up the system. I've noticed, in an extensive period of monitering system programs on my Moment, that at any given time there are five or six background services running. I have brought this down to one.

In addition, twenty or more other internal programs use CPU power and battery. I have managed to bring this down to seven.

The result? The CPU doesn't have to work as hard. Side effects are extended battery life and better performance.

Okay, but does this actually have an effect on battery life? Yes. The Android System (i.e. internal system applications) is the cause for 60-96% of battery drain on stock DL25. ÜberAcclaim brings this down to 2-3%.

Stock DL25 weighs in at 75MB. This comes in at 66.41MB, so you will save some system space.

Based on Venrom DL25 because there was really nothing else available and Venrom is mostly stock anyway.

Credits go to tdj512, john e wade, 96blkgsr, AGAT, dodgejcr, and Joeseph Mother (he'll be missed).

ÜberAcclaim 1.4:
-formats system, data, and cache: for a clean install that takes full advantage of what this ROM has to offer
-packaged with CrappyKernel
-removed bloatware
-cleaned up the system: less stress on the CPU, better battery life and performance
-blocked ads in applications: less stress CPU and data usage, better battery life and performance
-1% battery mod
-reboot/recovery mod
-OTA Update Center: no more wiping/flashing/restoring, updates will now take <5 minutes and not erase any data
-power control widgets
-updated Google apps to their latest versions
-removed software keyboard: can be redownloaded from the Market if necessary. I removed it because it sits in the background, using up to 10MB of precious RAM... and the Acclaim has a physical keyboard anyways.
-build.prop tweaks:
-RAM tweaks for better memory management
    -home app locked into memory
-WiFi scanning should use less battery then before
    -performance tweaks
-kernel tweaks to avoid potential problems
-init.d scripts: these automatically activate themselves upon boot, no need to manually execute.
-removed journalism: increases filesystem performance. Requires data, system, and cache on EXT4 to work.
-noatime on /data and /system: increases filesystem performance due
-ondemand CPU governor: changes the CPU governor to ondemand, which scales the CPU frequency up and down as needed. Saves a ton of battery when the phone is idle.
-microSD card cache increase: faster microSD card speed
-logs stored in /data to show when scrips were activated

Installing:
*Make sure you are using ClockworkMod recovery!
-boot into recovery mode
-flash ÜberAcclaim
-reboot to system

Old versions:

Updated to 1.4 on 12/19/12
Sorry for the wait, I have been busy with school. Anyway, I would just like to say that anyone updating, please DO NOT backup and restore your data. Flash the ROM, let it wipe your data, and restore it manually like you just got the phone. Reason being is that this update contains OTA Update Center, so all future updates will not erase your data. Also, if a Google app update comes, do not update- I will do this through the ROM shortly after and it will use less precious space than if you were to do it yourself.

New:
-OTA Update Center: after 1.4, no more wiping/flashing/restoring, updates will now take <5 minutes and not erase any data
-updated Google Play Store to 3.10.9
-updated YouTube to 4.2.16
-updated Google Maps to 6.14.2
-updated Street View to 1.8.1.2

Updated to 1.3.5 on 9/3/12
A maintenence release- includes some application updates, and a few bugfixes.

New:
-updated Google Maps, Street View, Play Store, Search, Voice Search

Issues fixed:
-bluetooth file transfer error
-adjusted/fixed a build.prop tweak: potential for better framerate than before
-Settings/About Phone/Android Version now correctly reads Android 2.2.1 instead of 2.2.2

Also:
If you are reading this and have an Acclaim, feel free to post here so I can get a better idea of who is still using one.

Updated to 1.3 on 5/27/12
A relatively big update. Main improvements here are battery life and performance.

New:
-updated Google Maps, Street View, and Play Store
-removed many useless files from the system: smaller ROM size
-removed more background processes: better battery life
-init.d scripts: these automatically activate themselves upon boot, no need to manually execute.

Updated to 1.2.4 on 4/16/12
Another incremental update, but an update nontheless.

New:
-updated Google Apps
-removed several more background programs that use battery/CPU

Issues fixed:
-Market error over 3G (thanks gidgaah and mastamindz for testing that out)

Also:
-as far as I know all ROM related issues have been worked out. This lets be resume normal updates. Expect 1.3 in a few weeks or so. After that, we will see who still has this phone, so I can make some decisions on other Acclaim projects.
-I just realized is is exactly one month to the date from the last update. How coincidential!

Updated to 1.2.3 on 3/16/12
Another incremental bugfix update.

New:
-updated Google Maps, Search, YouTube, and Market
-removed two more background processes: slightly better battery life, may not be noticable

Issues fixed:
-camcorder force close

Also:
-next update will resume normal progress on things I have planned for this ROM. I simply wanted to crush bugs before moving on, which was the point of ÜberAcclaim 1.2, 1.2.2, and this release. Basically, expect bigger and better updates from now on.
-Dark Reality has, as I mentioned before, donated his Acclaim to me (thanks again!). This will make it much easier for me to test things out on.
-if anyone wants an Android 4.0 theme, I flashed the DL25 version of this and it worked flawlessly. The Android 4.0 transitions also make the phone to appear running much smoother then on a stock theme.

Updated to 1.2.2 on 2/14/12
Just a small bugfix update.

Bugfixes over last release:
-fixed Market issue
-removed conflicting build.prop tweaks

Updated to 1.2 on 1/12/12
I usually put a short summary of what I've done here and the full changelog below, but there's so much stuff (and some I've probably forgetting), so I'll just say that 1.2 is a major update.

New Features:
-updated Google Apps to latest versions
-updated Market: new Market doesn't run in the background, like the old one
-cleaned up the system a bunch more: should be faster, with better batter life
-readded some apps I never should have removed, i.e. ones that some use on a daily basis
-completely rebuilt
-better memory management
-option to disable lockscreen in the Power Control Widgets
-audio boost
-enabled some build.prop tweaks that were previously disabled

Bugfixes over 1.0:
-RAM no longer shows as '0': more free RAM
-removed build.prop tweaks known to cause issues
-added some system files I never should have removed

Also:
-next update depends on what I include with ÜM 1.4, but I know right now that ÜA 1.3 will include some minor GPS tweaks, updated Google Search, faster bootup... and fixes to whatever bugs, if any, are found with 1.2.
